Communications Apprentice

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our Apprenticeship program and build a career in the telecommunications industry. You will work alongside experienced technicians, gaining hands-on skills across structured cabling, fibre optics, and network infrastructure.

Requirements
  • Australian school leaver or early career candidate
  • Genuine interest in technology and communications infrastructure
  • Willingness to undertake a Certificate III in Telecommunications (Cabler)
  • Valid driver's licence (or willingness to obtain)
  • Good communication skills and a team-first attitude
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces (training provided)
What You'll Do
  • Assist in the installation of data, voice, and fibre cabling systems
  • Learn to terminate and test copper and fibre optic cables
  • Support senior technicians on commercial and infrastructure project sites
  • Maintain safe work practices and site cleanliness
  • Complete TAFE/RTO coursework as part of your formal apprenticeship

Communications Technician

We are seeking experienced Communications Technicians to deliver high-quality cabling and communications infrastructure across a range of commercial, government, and telecommunications projects.

Requirements
  • Certificate III or IV in Telecommunications (or equivalent trade qualification)
  • ACMA Open Cabler Registration (Restricted or Unrestricted)
  • Demonstrated experience with copper, fibre, and structured cabling systems
  • Current driver's licence
  • White Card (Construction Induction Training)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
What You'll Do
  • Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A)
  • Splice and test single-mode and multimode fibre optic cables
  • Install communications rack and enclosure infrastructure
  • Read and interpret construction and services drawings
  • Complete as-built documentation and test reports to required standards
  • Maintain safe work practices in accordance with Comtex WHS procedures

PON Projects GPON / FTTP

Comtex is actively delivering Passive Optical Network (PON) fibre rollout projects across Queensland and New South Wales. We are seeking experienced field personnel to join these programs.

Civil Pit & Pipe Installer QLD

We are seeking experienced Civil Pit & Pipe Installers to carry out underground civil works to support our GPON fibre network rollout across Queensland.

Requirements
  • Proven experience in pit and pipe installation for telecommunications or utilities
  • Experience operating small plant and equipment (excavators, vacuum excavation)
  • White Card (Construction Induction)
  • Current driver's licence (HR preferred)
  • Traffic Management certification (desirable)
  • Ability to read civil construction drawings and site plans
  • Based in or able to work across Queensland
What You'll Do
  • Excavate and install telecommunications pits, ducts, and conduits
  • Carry out directional boring and manual excavation where required
  • Install cable draw wires and sub-ducts within conduit networks
  • Backfill, compact, and restore ground surfaces to required standards
  • Set up and manage traffic control in accordance with TMC plans
  • Complete daily site records, dockets, and as-built documentation

Fibre Technicians NSW QLD

We are looking for experienced Fibre Technicians to join our PON project teams across New South Wales and Queensland. You will play a key role in the deployment of GPON fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) networks.

Requirements
  • ACMA Open Cabler Registration (Optical Fibre Endorsement preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in fusion splicing (single-mode fibre)
  • Experience with OTDR testing and fault location
  • Familiarity with GPON, FTTP, or NBN fibre deployment standards
  • Current driver's licence
  • White Card (Construction Induction)
  • Working at Heights certification (desirable)
What You'll Do
  • Install, route, and terminate single-mode fibre optic cables in GPON network environments
  • Perform fusion splicing and fibre enclosure preparation
  • Carry out OTDR and power meter testing, and interpret results
  • Install fibre distribution hubs (FDHs), splice enclosures, and ONTs
  • Work from aerial platforms, in pits, and in premises environments
  • Complete as-built records and test documentation to project standards
