About the
Westmead Health Precinct
Westmead is one of the largest health and education precincts in Australia with four major hospitals, three world-leading medical research institutes and major tertiary education institutions with campuses on the precinct. More than $3 billion has been committed by the government, universities and the private sector to upgrade and expand the precinct over the next few years.
This includes the $1 billion Westmead Redevelopment project which included Block K for our new Emergency Department and other services.
Transport links are also being transformed at Westmead with the introduction of Parramatta Light Rail, a confirmed stop for Westmead on Metro West and the first stage of Western Sydney Rail, and a connection to the new Western Sydney International Airport opening in 2026.
For over two decades, Comtex has been integral to the ICT infrastructure of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, supporting its evolution into a leading paediatric healthcare facility. In our latest engagement, we executed a comprehensive upgrade aligned with the Health Grade Enterprise Network (HGEN) initiative. This project included:
-
Complete overhaul of the hospital’s fibre backbone, enhancing network speed and reliability.
-
Installation of 1,200 wireless access points to ensure robust Wi-Fi coverage throughout the facility.
-
Deployment of advanced patient telemetry systems for real-time monitoring.
-
Integration of modern patient entertainment systems across all wards.
-
Upgrades to sleep clinics, improving diagnostic capabilities.
These upgrades were meticulously planned and executed to minimize disruption to hospital operations, ensuring continuous care delivery. Our longstanding relationship with the hospital underscores our commitment to supporting healthcare excellence through innovative ICT solutions.
